It’s been 19 months since we opened Nagatacho GRiD, 7 months since we started to build Gaiax Community and 4 months since we transformed Gaiax headquarters into a free public co-working space where we work side to side with people we have never met and know nothing about. It’s thrilling and it’s challenging. Our goal is to build a diverse community around Gaiax values and instigate a constant communication and connection among these diverse members. We are not in the real estate business but rather in a community making business and we try to support any efforts that go into social innovations, problem solving and the pursuit of happiness. We aim at becoming the epicenter of socially-conscious people regardless of whether or not they are part of our organization.
Are we in a possession of a successful community building formula? Not really. But we are content in adopting a one-step-at-a-time strategy and we meet any failure as an opportunity to learn and do better. For now, our community is thriving and reached 3000 members. These are not just aspiring entrepreneurs and freelancers but also neighbours (residential and corporate), politicians, stay-at-home moms with kids, service providers, students, wellness enthusiasts, foreign nomads and everyone who appreciates a new way of working, living and developing a global society on a local level.
Nagatacho GRiDがオープンしてから19ヶ月、ガイアックスコミュニティを始めてから7ヶ月、ガイアックス本社の一部を全く知らない人と協働するフリースペースに変えてから4ヶ月が経ちます。この取り組みはスリリングで挑戦的です。私たちの目標は、ガイアックスの価値観を取り巻く多様なコミュニティを構築し、これらの多様なメンバー間の絶え間ないコミュニケーションとつながりを醸成することです。私たちは不動産事業ではなく、コミュニティ作りのビジネスをしており、社会革新、問題解決、幸福の追求につながるあらゆる活動をサポートしようと努めています。ガイアックスの一員であるかどうかは関係なく、Nagatacho GRiDが社会的意識の強い人々の集まる中心地になることを目指しています。
私たちはコミュニティをうまく作り上げる公式を獲得できているのでしょうか？実際は違います。しかし、私たちは1つずつステップを進めていく現状に満足しています。また、失敗により学ぶこともできました。現在のところ、私たちのコミュニティ運営はうまくいっており、会員数も約3000名に達しています。会員には、野心的な起業家やフリーランスだけでなく、近隣の方（居住地、勤務地）、政治家、子連れの専業主婦、サービス提供者、学生、ウェルネス愛好家、外国人ノマドワーカー、そして新しい働き方、住み方やグローバル社会を地域の観点から開発する方法に強い関心を持つ人達が含まれています。
Allow us to explain for those of you who are new, Nagatacho GRiD is a multi-purpose community building that opened half of its floors to the public free of charge. Everyone who signs up to the Gaiax Community bi-weekly newsletter is welcome to use 2F Base (the community space located on the second floor) and, depending on their availability, several other floors and facilities as well (B1F Space 0, 1F Tiny peace kitchen, 6F Attic, RF Cloud 9). Not only does the bi-weekly newsletter keep you informed of all the events, workshops and activities we organize at Nagatacho GRiD, it also means you can rely on Nagatacho GRiD as your social hub any time between 7AM and 11PM (including weekends). Wether for work or play, to enjoy a moment of solitude or conduct a meeting, to signup for a yoga session or a board game match, to attend community lunch or enjoy a cup of coffee, feel free to come any time. All facilities are made accessible to you free of charge.
Speaking of coffee – the GRiD original coffee machine is located at the community space on the second floor and yeah, the coffee is free as well. Currently you will find a donation box right next to the coffee machine with its proceedings going towards The Japan Red Cross Society in their efforts towards relief for the victims of the Hokkaido earthquake. Coping with critical damage to infrastructure and with currently over 3000 people being displaced at the wake of the cold season, all help is greatly appreciated in assuring that the tragedy will not continue to make any more victims. So on your next visit why not donate your cup of coffee to The Japan Red Cross Society? We do believe that trust, generosity and kindness towards each other is the core of the future economy, the economy where values are given not exchanged, where unused resources are shared, not thrown away and where everyone trusts each other for the common good and welfare of the society.
まだNagatacho GRiDを知らない方々に説明をさせていただきます。Nagatacho GRiDは2階フロアの半分を無償で開放した多目的コミュニティビルです。Gaiax Communityに登録し、ニュースレターが隔週で届くことに合意さえすれば、2F Baseの共有スペースだけでなく、空いてれば、他のフロア（B1F Space 0,1F Tiny peace kitchen、6F Attic、屋上 Cloud 9）も自由に利用することができます。隔週週末に届くニュースレターは、Nagatacho GRiDで開催されるすべてのイベントやワークショップ、アクティビティをお知らせするだけではありません。午前7時から午後11時の間（週末を含む）なら、いつでもあなたの社会交流の拠点としてNagatacho GRiDをお使いいただけるという意味を持ちます。仕事や遊びをしたり、ひとり静かな時間を楽しんだり、ミーティングをしたり、ヨガセッションやボードゲームに興じ、コミュニティランチに参加したり、本を読みながらコーヒーを楽しんだり。いつでも気軽に来てください。無料で利用いただけます。
コーヒーについて言えば、GRiDのオリジナルコーヒーマシンが2F Baseの共有スペースにあります。ええ、コーヒーも無料です。ですが今は、北海道大震災の被災者を救済するため、コーヒーマシンのすぐ隣に日本赤十字社への募金箱があります。インフラへの重大な被害や、これから寒い季節になる中、3000人以上が避難所生活をしている現状に対処することで、これ以上犠牲者を生み出されないことへの大きな助けとなります。ですから、今度Nagatacho GRiDにいらした際は、ぜひコーヒー代として日本赤十字社への寄付をお願いします。信頼と寛大さとお互いの優しさが将来の経済の中核だと信じています。価値が交換されず、未使用の資源が共有され、捨てられず、誰もが互いを公共と社会福祉のため信頼しあっている経済です。
